Patch Map & Wiring

Document every cable in your rig. Wire pedals, amps, snakes, and patch panels together — then print the signal chain or export the Show Bible with full wiring notes.

What Is the Patch Map?

The Patch tab shows every audio and control cable in your rig as a table. Each row is one cable — source device + jack → destination device + jack. Cables here are the same connections drawn as lines on the Rig Layout canvas. Edit in either place; they share the same data.

Wiring is per-rig, not per-pedalboard. If your rig has a Main Board and a FX Board, the patch map shows cables across all of them.

Adding Cables

Use the Add cable form at the top of the Patch tab:

  1. Pick the Source device (the out side) and optionally a specific jack
  2. Pick the Destination device (the in side) and optionally a jack
  3. Check ⇌ stereo if you're running a stereo pair
  4. Click + Add

Or use the Rig Layout canvas: click Wire in the layout header, then tap two blocks to connect them. Tapping an existing line removes it.

Signal Types

TypeShown asWhen to use
Mono audioSolid lineStandard guitar/instrument cable
Stereo audioThick lineStereo pedal pair (check ⇌ on the cable)
ControlDashed green lineMIDI cable, expression pedal, foot controller

The signal type is auto-detected from the device kind. A MIDI connection between a controller and a pedal is automatically tagged as "control."

Visual View

Click Visual next to the cable count to switch to a rack-style canvas. Each gear item shows as a strip with jack circles. Connected jacks are highlighted; bezier cables are drawn between them so you can see the signal flow spatially. This view is read-only — to add or remove cables, switch back to the table.

For patch panels, each point row also shows a small (half) or ↘↘ (full) normal indicator between the label and the OUT jack. It's green when the connection is active; greyed out and struck through when a patched cable is breaking it — same logic as the Normals section below, at a glance.

Patch Panels and Normaling

A patch panel (patchbay) can have normaled connections — passive default connections between each point's OUT and IN jack that are active when nothing is patched. Set this per-device in Gear → Edit Device → Default normaling.

Normaling modes

ModeDefault connectionWhat breaks it
Through (none)No default — must patch explicitly
↘ Half-normalOUT → IN passivelyPatching the BOTTOM (IN) jack overrides. Patching the TOP (OUT) "mults" the signal — it continues to IN too.
↘↘ Full-normalOUT → IN passivelyPatching either jack breaks the default connection.

You can also set a per-point override in Gear → Edit Device → point labels — give a point a different mode than the panel default. Common for a panel where most points are half-normaled except a few dedicated thru points.

Normaling status in the Patch Map

The Normals section at the bottom of the Patch tab shows each patch panel's normaled connections with their live status:

Points without labels are summarized as a count ("+ 24 unlabeled pts (↘ Half) — 22 active"). Label a point in Gear → Edit Device to see it individually.

Half-normal is the classic studio patchbay setup: a synth output normaled to a mixer channel. By default the signal flows through. Patch a cable from the OUT jack to mult the signal (send to two places at once). Patch a cable into the IN jack to override the mixer and send something else there instead.

Rig Layout

The Rig Layout tab shows all your gear as draggable blocks on a canvas. Drag to rearrange — left to right is roughly signal flow order (guitar → pedals → amp). The same cables from the Patch tab are drawn as lines with arrowheads.

In the layout canvas:

The Rig Layout prints as an SVG blueprint in the Print Sheet and Show Bible — useful for handing to a backline tech who needs to see the signal flow visually.
